Language on this website
In some places on this website, I wish to provide the Chinese alongside the English. I have therefore tried to clarify the language by writing in this order:
- English e.g. 'Jiaying University'
- Chinese traditional characters : Chinese simplified characters (if applicable) e.g. 嘉應大學 : 嘉应大学
- Standard Chinese Pinyin (in bold) : Hakka Romanization (in italics) e.g. Jīayīng dàxué : Ga(1) yin(4) tai(4) hog(6)
So a page title might look something like this:
Jiaying University 嘉應大學 : 嘉应大学
Jīayīng dàxué : Ga(1) yin(4) tai(4) hog(6)
and a phrase within a sentence might look something like this:
...the plum blossom, 梅花 méihuā : moi(2) fa(1),...
If this system is hopelessly unclear please do let me know and I will try to improve it!
I have opted to put the Standard Chinese Pinyin first because it is much easier to find the Pinyin to match Chinese characters than to find the equivalent Hakka Romanization.
